The Severn & Wye Recovery College delivers educational courses teaching people the skills, techniques and knowledge to recover from mental illness.

Through our courses our students learn more about their condition and treatments, and gain the power and resilience to recover and stay well.

The college is delivered through a partnership involving 2gether NHS Foundation Trust, Adult Education in Gloucesterhire,  NHS Gloucestershire Clinical Commissioning Group, Swindon Mind, Independence Trust, Family Lives and others.

Our Courses

Subjects covered during our courses include:

  • The research about recovering from mental illness
  • What mental illness is and how it affects us
  • The psychology of wellbeing
  • The process and practice of wellbeing
  • How the way we form our own story affects the way we feel
  • How to be mindful
  • How to plan for a new future by setting achievable goals

Learning Methods

Our courses are designed to fit your own learning style. The main method of learning is through group discussion, but you can take an active role or remain quiet, depending on your preference. For some courses there is a course book and small exercises, and an emphasis on sharing stories, although no one needs to share their story unless they want to.

The Team

Everyone involved in the Recovery College either has lived experience of mental health issues or professional experience of mental health and recovery. We all have a special interest in helping people with mental health difficulties.

Who Can Enrol

Our courses are aimed at anyone with experience of enduring mental health issues aged 16 and over, who is registered with a GP in Gloucestershire and receiving services from 2gether NHS Foundation Trust. People who have recently left our services within the last year can also enrol. We also offer some spaces to carers and professionals.

When are the courses running?

Our courses run at various times of the year and full details can be found in our prospectus by clicking here.

At this time, the Recovery College is only available for people registered with a Gloucesterhsire GP.
